Trees in the Community

The Blue Marble Project

The Blue Marble Project is a gentle, earth-friendly movement by which "blue marbles have been shared around the world with millions of people in celebration of our beautiful, fragile planet". Learn more about this beautiful project at www.bluemarbles.org. Trees writing on this topic is Two Oceans, in the Prose Light section of this website.

For her unique participation in raising the awareness of the urgency in caring for our blue ocean planet, Trees received her first blue marble from The Rooftop Alternative School in San Francisco, California.  They had heard about her gentle ways upon the earth via Mat-Su Carbon Crew (the recycling program) at the Mat-Su College in Palmer, Alaska.  Andi Wong at Rooftop and Trees then coordinated a surprise delivery of blue marbles from Miss Kastner's third graders to Mrs. Gauster's fifth grade class at Muldoon Elementary in Anchorage, as part of their Earth Day awareness activities.  Learn more on these visits in the Trees in Class section above.

Trees in Mat-Su

Trees at Arboretum & Mat-Su Carbon Crew

At a fundraiser for local non-profit organizations, Trees met David Johnson of the Mat-Su Carbon Crew (the recycling program at Mat-Su College) in Palmer, Alaska.  Matanuska-Susitna College (MSC) is an extended college of the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA).  Behind this campus is an old hidden and forgotten arboretum.  Trees named several larch trees (Dances with Me, Stand Down, Surf Rider), as they gently cleared one of the historic plots of trees.  Dances with Me also became the title of one of her poems that can be read in the Poem section of this website.

Trees & Fundraising

Trees at Clare House Fundraiser, Foundations for Recovery & Clare House

Trees believes in giving back to the community as much as one can.  She attends many charitable functions and donates auction items to organizations such as AWAIC (Abused Women's Aid in Crisis), Clare House (shelter for homeless women with children), Covenant House (for teens), Foundations for Recovery (aiding women recovering from breast cancer) and more.  She has a special fondness for charities that help children, those who have been abused and those who have lost much in life.

Her poems on such topics include Brown Eyes, Chivalry, Green, Rampage, Recession, Satchel, Undone, Uprooted and Weak.
